Paolo Messina

I am a London-based travel photographer specializing in creative photojournalism and landscapes.

My images show the approach I take to photography: an emotional, creative journey investigating the essence of landscapes and the passion of people’s everyday lives. Through traveling and learning about experiences foreign to my own, I set out to capture creative, iconic imagery to challenge the viewers’ preconceptions and relay the truth of the vista.

My interest in photography began whilst I served in the Military Service during my time in Italy. I was inspired largely by the amazing views and the breathtaking landscapes I experienced during these years. As I travelled, I was given the chance to meet some incredible people; many living their lives through a daily struggle and increasingly challenging times. I found myself with a desire to record these experiences through the lens, so I always had with me a disposable camera. I quickly progressed to an Olympus OM10 after moving to London and working part-time jobs whilst exploring my newly discovered creative passion. Soon after learning the basics, I decided to throw myself into a career in photography by learning about both the film and digital world. My experience as a photolab operator, retoucher, photographic assistant and senior picture editor gave me the creative confidence and the technical expertise to explore a career as a photographer.

The current climate ensures that moving with the digital age is a necessity, of which I intend to continue pushing the boundaries. I am currently exploring the parameters of computer-generated (CG) photography and it’s relationship with the future age of advertising.
